Swift Sport 2018 ECU tuning and remapping
The new 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport certainly has a lot to offer in terms of pure performance and driving fun but, like all homologated sports cars, it also has a lot of untapped potential that all car tuning enthusiasts can't wait to discover and experience.
Suzuki for its Swift Sport claims a maximum power of 140 horsepower at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 2500 rpm, already excellent values for a car as extremely light as the Swift Sport that guarantee a considerable amount of fun within everyone's reach.
Furthermore, it has now been established that Suzuki claimed lower values than those actually found in dyno tests, several magazines and preparers in the industry have infact found significantly higher values on the original versions of Suzuki Swift Sport, with maximum powers being found slightly greater than 150 horsepower.
So, if you are a happy owner of the new Swift Sport, know that you will most likely you're already driving a car with more than 150 horsepower for only 975 kilograms of weight... not bad for starting to have fun!
1.4 Boosterjet engine, main features
In the following diagram we illustrate the main components of the Suzuki Swift Sport's 1.4 Boosterjet engine, on many of these parts it is possible to act with more or less extensive tuning interventions.
The 1.4 boosterjet gasoline engine is equipped with. direct injection system consisting of injectors with seven-hole nozzles that allow finely atomized fuel to be sprayed with increased pressure.
The supercharging system uses a wastegate valve which in normal driving adjusts to the closed position to ensure maximum responsiveness. The same valve opens at cruising speed to reduce fuel consumption.
The intercooler is air-cooled to improve volumetric efficiency by cooling the intake air, this is one of the typical components that can be worked on for better performance.
The variable pressure control system of fuel reduces type and amount of particulate matter emitted.
Other features that contribute to the excellent performance of this engine are:
- Dual inlet air pressure control sensor, for immediate response to throttle commands;
- Short intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds integrated into the header and pendulum supports for weight and size containment.
Performance and tuning of the 2018 Swift Sport
Surely it is possible to 'live happily' with the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport for many years without ever getting bored and without making any changes to the car, you will always be rewarded by such generosity and elasticity of the engine and a responsive ride but, as is often the case, there are users who are never satisfied and who love Elaborate their car in search of better performance... obviously with the knowledge that they are no longer in compliance with the rules of the road and with the caution, therefore, to use the car only at the track or on private areas.
Since this is a very recent model with a brand new engine there are still not many special parts available and widely tested for the new Swift Sport, especially in terms of engine and especially ECU tuning.
In addition to some well-known Japanese tuning companies, however, there are also some excellent European tuners who have already developed some interesting solutions for the tuning of Suzuki Swift Sport and in particular for the remapping the ECU.
Among these we would like to point out CTC Performance a small English company based in Martock, Somerset county, active since 2009 and with considerable experience gained in the Production and sale of special parts for Toyota and Suzuki.
Chris and Tony are the owners of CTC Performance and have a particular fondness for the little Suzuki Swift Sport on which they have gained enviable experience in tuning, including very hardcore tuning, from earlier versions of the Swift Sport.

original ECU BOSCH Suzuki Swift Sport ZC33S
The original ECU for the 2018 Swift Sport is of the DI-Motronic type and is manufactured in Hungary by the Bosch. The name of the model is ECM-053R0-0 and it is possible to work on this ECU by reprogramming it, thus without the need to replace it or install an additional module.
Obviously, this is a very delicate operation, since it touches the 'brain' of the entire engine, which must be carried out only by personnel qualified in elaborations and equipped with special tools to intervene in the so-called 'remapping'.
Below are two pictures of the original ECU, closed and opened to be prepared for the tuning operation.
ECU remapping by CTC Performance
CTC Performance is able to intervene with a remapping the original ECU of Suzuki Swift Sport 2018, we will now look at the details and performance obtained as a result of the ECU Tuning Performed on a fully original 2018 Swift Sport.
But before we get into the details there is good news for all tuning enthusiasts who want to try their hand at tuning the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport, the folks at CTC Performance are offering the opportunity to take advantage of the 'remote' mapping service, you will then only need to remove and ship the ECU to them (in England) and receive it, after a few days, mapped to your requirements.
As explained at the beginning of this article, the Swift Sport starts with more real power than Suzuki's official claim (and we like that a lot).
In this specific case, CTC Performance measured, on the Swift Sport used for the test, a effective initial output of 154 horsepower In original configuration.
The intervention involves reprogramming the original (OEM) ECU produced by Bosch, shown here on the left is a phase of the reprogramming, for a not-overly-hard level of processing, called Stage 1.
With this ECU Tuning intervention. Chris and Tony take action on the following parameters. controlled by the control unit:
- Fuel map adjustment
- Air-fuel ratio map
- Map ignition
- Variable valve timing map
- Boost Control Map flow rate from 1.0 bar to 1.2 bar
- Modified Boost Limiter
- Torque curve map
- Throttle valve map
- RPM limiter increased from 6000rpm to 6300rpm
- Speed limiter increased from 220km/h to 280km/h
As a result of the remapping of the ECU, the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport, in the dyno test, achieved an increase in maximum power output of 16 horsepower, thus coming in at a effective final output of 170 horsepower.
Also notable is thetorque increase as a result of which the Swift Sport reaches a maximum value of 280 Nm.
Here is the video with the dyno test performed by CTC Performance to measure the results obtained with the Stage 1 tuning intervention.
Finally, let us remind you that this performance was achieved by remapping the ECU alone, on a car that is completely original in its other parts, which is why we talk about Stage 1 tuning.
But CTC Performance is never standing still and has already prepared other special parts to be tested on the new Swift Sport for a'processing called Stage 2 that raises the bar of performance even higher obtained, we will see in the near future what it is all about.
Tuning and remapping ECU by 3M Garage
Manuel is a preparer from the province of Modena, owner of the 3M Garage, and he contacted us to submit the fantastic results he obtained by processing one of his client's Swift Sport.
In this case it was not a simple map but a much more substantial preparation work, in fact Manuel's 3M Garage carried out the following elaborations:
- Complete exhaust 3M Garage
- Turbine modified by Turbo Flash of Barletta
- Suction injen technology
- Blow off forge Motorsport
- Intercooler forge Motorsport
- Original ECU remapping
- Appropriate thermal grade spark plugs with gap modification
Because of this level of preparation, the Suzuki Swift Sport came to a remarkable peak power of 216 horses and to a pair of 316 Nm.
Click on the image on the left to see the graph with the power and torque curves obtained from 3M Garage and kindly provided by Manuel.
But watch out because it doesn't end there, our friends in Modena - with the support of Audacia Motors which is supplying most of the spare parts-in fact, they tell us that they are also planning to work on the engine, developing special ad-hoc components such as pistons, connecting rods, etc.
Guys-we look forward to the results that will be achieved.
In the gallery of images below you can see some interesting details of the various work done, such as the complete exhaust system that was made directly by 3M Garage.
